Former Asante Kotoko head coach Isaac Opeele has advised Medeama SC manager Ibrahim Tanko to turn down an offer to join the interim Black Stars coaching staff.

Local media reports indicate that Swedish tactician Kim Lars Björkegren could be tasked with leading Ghana in their crucial November double-header against Somalia, with Black Stars assistant coach Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko expected to assist him.

The reported move comes at a critical moment for Ghana, who have suffered consecutive defeats in their opening Group C matches and are desperate to get their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign back on track.

However, in a post on X on October 16, 2026, Isaac Opeele urged Tanko to reject the role, arguing that the Medeama SC manager deserved an opportunity to serve as head coach rather than as an assistant.

The former Asante Kotoko coach argued that Tanko’s extensive coaching experience should be recognised with a substantive head coach appointment, adding that he should not accept the assistant role otherwise.

“Coach Anyars Ibrahim Tanko has to decline the SHAMEFUL Black Stars appointment! He has to reject working under the Black Queens coach. He has been sidelined for a long time and deserves an absolute respect after bidding his time and building his image at multi business millionaire Mosespacka's - Medeama SC.

“Tanko with his rich experience as a coach and UEFA Champions League winner deserves better to coach the Black Stars in games against Somalia than to be an assistant. A very Shameful appointment which my bro, Prof Jude Acheampong asserts to!” he wrote on X.
