The race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or is heating up, with three players emerging as leading contenders for the prestigious individual award, which will be presented in London on October 26.
Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane are among the leading candidates for the accolade.
The three players have enjoyed impressive campaigns, strengthening their respective cases for the award, while their club and national team achievements have also contributed to the debate over who deserves to win.

France Football unveiled the nominees across all categories on September 8, 2026, officially opening the voting process ahead of the ceremony.
For the first time since 2019, the Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held outside Paris. This year’s event will take place in London, England, in honour of Stanley Matthews, the inaugural winner of the award.
Unlike previous editions, this year’s race appears to have no clear favourite. Each leading contender has strengths and weaknesses, whether in individual performances or collective team achievements. Performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup are also expected to influence the final decision.
The nominees for the men’s Ballon d’Or include Jude Bellingham, Marc Cucurella, Pau Cubarsí, title-holder Ousmane Dembélé, Bruno Fernandes, Luis Díaz, Erling Haaland, Gabriel Magalhães, Achraf Hakimi, Harry Kane, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lamine Yamal, Sadio Mané, Marquinhos, Kylian Mbappé, Lautaro Martínez, Michael Olise, Willian Pacho, João Neves, Julián Quiñones, Rodri, Nuno Mendes, Vinícius Júnior, Declan Rice, Lionel Messi, Fabián Ruiz, Ferran Torres, Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba and Vitinha.

Overall: 42 goals in 44 club appearances.
World Cup: 10 goals in eight matches, taking his career tally at the tournament to 22.
Despite these impressive numbers, Mbappé failed to win a team title, raising questions about his chances of claiming the award.

Overall: 73 goals across all competitions.
Bundesliga: 36 goals and five assists in 31 appearances, finishing as the league’s top scorer.
European Golden Shoe: Winner.
World Cup: Six goals in seven matches as England finished third.
