Spanish striker Jesús de Miguel dies after collapsing during match

Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has been confirmed dead after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match in Spain’s second tier.

The match against FC Andorra was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time after De Miguel collapsed following a collision with visiting goalkeeper Jesús Owono.

Owono had rushed out of his area to clear a long ball and struck the striker in the chest with his knee.

Medics quickly attended to the 30-year-old on the pitch, spending more than five minutes trying to revive him.

However, he could not recover and was taken to hospital for further treatment. Despite efforts to save him, he died.

CD Tenerife announced his death in an official statement, saying the club was devastated by the loss of De Miguel, who died while representing the team.

“Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, CD Tenerife communicates the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” the club said on November 3, 2026.

“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling of overwhelming sadness.”
