Kintampo, (B/A) April 7, GNA - Yakubu Egala Moro of Die Hard Cycling Club of Accra won the sixth stage of the Ghana National Cycling Tour on Wednesday, covering the 92-kilometre distance race from Buipe in the Northern Region to Kintampo in the Brong-Ahafo Region with a time of 2:27:09 seconds. The race attracted 73 competitors.
Prosper Agbo of City Migro Club also of Accra followed closed to place second with a time of 2:27:13 seconds with Sarpeh Nunoo of Young Stars Club took the third position with a time of 2:27:15 seconds. The fourth to eighth positions were determined by the colour of jerseys of the riders as they placed among the first to 15 positions. Joe Kudakpo in blue jersey and captain of Die Hard Club thus placed fourth while Adnan Mohammed, representing River Park of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region and wearing a red jersey followed at the fifth position.
Anthony Boakye, a student of Twene Amanfo Secondary/Technical (TASTECH) and a member of the River Park team of Kumasi with a white jersey took the sixth position.
Samuel Anim in green jersey and representing Young Stars team of Accra placed seventh while Henry T. Djangmah of Die Hard Club in yellow jersey took the eighth position. Mr Williams Kyei, General-Secretary of the Ghana Cyclists Association in an interview with GNA Sports after the competition at Kintampo, said the nine-day national competition organised by the national association was jointly sponsored by organisations including Cowbell, Bic and Onga.
The tour started on April 1 and is expected to end on Saturday, April 9 when the best amongst the participating cyclists would meet in Accra for the grand finale, Mr Kyei indicated.
He said the seventh stage of the competition would be held in Kumasi on Thursday, April 7 for a 20-lap ride within Kumasi Metropolitan Area, representing a distance of 84 kilometers. Mr Kyei said awards to deserving riders would be in the form of cash, trophies, medals, jerseys and products of the sponsors.
The awards will be for the 93Best Team", 93Best Fighter", 93You= ngest Rider", 93Best Points" and 93Best Time", he said and indicated that= some of the cyclists in the competition were youngsters in the ages of 18 years and below. The General Secretary recalled that the tour was started with 80 riders from Accra to Mankessim in the Central Region over a distance of 82 kilometres.
The second stage of the tour was from Cape Coast to Takoradi in the Western Region, covering 109 kilometres, the third stage from Assin Fosu to Kumasi covered 146 kilometres, the tour of the Kumasi to Sunyani over 114 kilometers ride within the Sunyani Municipality was the fourth while the fifth stage tour was in Tamale where the cyclists did another criterion ride of 15-lap representing 102 kilometres. Mr Kyei expressed gratitude to 93all those through whose efforts the tour have reached this far" and prayed that the subsequent stages including Kumasi to Koforidua would follow suit and be successful.
