Amponfi Jnr Elected Chairman Of National Sports Authority Workers Union

2008 Sports Writers Association of Ghana Special Award Winner and Principal Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr has been elected as the new Chairman of the National Sports Authority Workers Union of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of Ghana TUC.

Amponfi Jnr was elected at a meeting of the Union held on June 8, 2011 at the Media Centre of the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, in Accra.

Out of a total of one hundred and twenty-five (125) votes cast, Mr. Amponfi pulled a whooping one hundred and three (103) ballots to defeat his three other opponents: Mr. Silas Attipoe(an Accountant - eleven(11) votes), Mrs. Grace Asiam(a Senior Administrative Officer - seven(7) votes) and Mr. Koranteng Kennedy(a Senior Technical Officer - four(4) votes).

Other executive members elected were: Mr. Thomas Kumodzi(1st Vice Chairman), Madam Emma Quansah(2nd Vice Chairman), Mrs. Millicent Edu(Secretary),Mr. Kwadwo Kwarteng(Assistant Secretary),Ms. Dziedzorm Sipitey(1st Trustee) and Ms. Sylvia Osei(2nd Trustee).

Addressing Union members after the contest, Mr. Amponfi expressed his deepest gratitude to workers of the National Sports Authority for the huge trust and confidence reposed in him.

He promised to adopt an all-inclusive style of administration devoid of tribalism and pivoted on service in humility, transparency, accountability and rule of law.

The election process was supervised by Mr. Godwin Adjei, the Industrial Relations Officer of the Public Services Workers Union of Ghana Trades Union Congress.

Present at the meeting to witness the electoral proceedings was the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Wolanyo K. Agra.

Mr. Amponfi and his team have accordingly been sworn into office for a renewable four (4) year term.
