Brong Ahafo region prepares for Unity Games

Sunyani, (B/A) June 13, GNA - Brong-Ahafo Region is feverishly preparing to take part in the forthcoming National Unity Games in Accra in July this year.

A technical committee in-charge of the selection of hockey players organised a one-day talent-hunt for both men and women at the Sunyani Polytechnic Park.


In all 26 players made up of 16 men and 10 women were selected to represent the Region at the Unity Games.


Those selected in the men's division were Kwadwo Kyere, Albert Abeka Sampana, Yaw Saeed Adoma, Kwabena Berko Darko, Sulemana Abubakari, Joseph Abouba, Richard Kyeremeh, Samuel Antwi Sarfo, Jonas Takyi, Samuel Ankomah and Kwame Agyepong, all from Sunyani.


Others were Victor Overmass Kusi, Samuel Tuah and Maxwell Donkor from Dormaa-Ahenkro and Richard Agongo and Stephen Twumasi from Drobo. In the women's division Dorothy Frimpomaa, Josephine Fremah, Dorothy Andoh, Abigail Boateng, Patience Aba, Regina Owusu, all students of Twene Amanfo Senior High School (TASTEC) in Sunyani were selected.


Others were Carolina Amponsah, Stella Addo-Twum, from Sunyani, Martha Koomson, Wenchi, and Selina Oforiwaa Djan from Atebubu. In a related development, 34 Under-15 players were selected after a similar justify-your-inclusion tournament which was participated by 18 Juvenile football teams at the Coronation Park in Sunyani.


The participating teams were Penkwase Soccer Intelligence, Area One Young Goldfields, Feyenoord F/C, Young Hearts, Young Kotoko 91A' F/C, El= even

Lions, Alakoso, Liberty F/C, Young Kotoko 91B', Panest F/C, all from Sunyani.


The others were Kenyase Angel F/C, Amankus F/C, Udinese F/C, both from Abesim, Kotokrom Super Stars, Bechem Great Warriors, Young Arsenals, Adwenpa Stars both from Bereku), Kintampo Stars, Wenchi Stars and Great Olympics, also from Wenchi.


Mr George Kwame Opuni, Sunyani Municipal Sports Organiser of the Ghana Education Service (GES) who is also the Chairman of the technical committee of t has urged each of the 34 players selected to produce either their birth certificates or weighing cards by June 14 to ascertain the authenticity of their ages.


He gave the advised in an interview with the GNA Sports at the Coronation Park just after the seven-hour-long competition.


Mr Opuni said any of the selected players who fail to present any of the two documents to the Regional Secretariat of the NSC should consider himself or herself automatically disqualified to represent the Region for the 10-day National Unity Games scheduled for Accra.
