Tottenham and Zenit St Petersburg keen on Gyan
Sunderland return to pre-season training on Wednesday harbouring a degree of uncertainty about Asamoah Gyan's future at the club. The Ghana striker joined from Rennes for £13m last year but his agent has suggested Gyan may shortly be on the move again.
Although Steve Bruce and Niall Quinn, Sunderland's manager and chairman respectively, are adamant a striker who scored 10 goals last season will not be leaving, Gyan's agent, Fabien Piveteau, seems less sure.
"I can't say if he is staying or not," Piveteau said. "As far as I know, one club has tabled an offer. He is returning to the club for pre-season and we will sit down with the coach to talk about it."
Although Zenit St Petersburg are believed to have made that bid, Tottenham Hotspur retain an interest in Gyan, who publicly at least is playing the loyal company man.
"The Sunderland fans love me, which is really important," he said.
Bruce, meanwhile, is hoping that having had a £12m triple bid for Manchester United's John O'Shea, Wes Brown and Darron Gibson accepted last month he can shortly persuade that trio to relocate to the Stadium of Light. O'Shea is understood to be the closest of the three to joining.
