Hot Ghanaian boxing prospect Cobbina Johnson has vowed to

defeat Nigerian Yaqub Kareem to claim the vacant Commonwealth Super Flyweight

belt when the duo square off on August 27 at the Lebanon House in Accra.

It’s a Ghana-Nigeria affair with young sensation Rafael

Mensah also fighting a 10 round International Catchweight contest against

Sunday Ajayi on the ‘Opportunity 2’ bill put together by Landmark Promotions.

Following the success of ‘Opportunity 1’ promotion last June

24 at the Prisons Canteen, Osu, Accra, Landmark Promotions promise even more

excitement with their 2nd event of the year which has at stake the

Commonwealth Super Flyweight championship sanctioned by the Commonwealth Boxing

Board Secretary General Simon Block and under the auspices of the Ghana Boxing

Authority chaired by Samir Captan.

Cobbina Johnson, 13-4, (8 KOs), has been earmarked by the

renowned Landmark Promotions as the next world title hopeful. Victory against

Kareem, 6-1-1, (4 KOs) is therefore a must with the winner scheduled to defend

the title within 120 days in the UK.

“Cobbina is very motivated and determined to be a world

champion and we believe he can do it because he works very hard and is also

strong.

“We are already looking forward to defending the belt in the

UK because a successful defence there can push him for the world title,” a

source close to Landmark Promotions told SportsInGhana.com.

Also fighting for the Commonwealth Lightweight title at the

Lebanon House on August 27 is Maxwell Awuku, 23-2-1 (14 KOs).

Southpaw Awuku who is also promoted by Landmark Promotions

is currently ranked 11 in the latest WBO ratings and is eagerly waiting for the

winner of the WBO Lightweight title fight between holder Ricky Burns and Nicky

Cook this Saturday July 16 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Gabriel Odoi Laryea (9-2-1, 7 KOs) contests Asamoah Wilson

(3-6, 3 KOs) in a national bantamweight eliminator on the undercard of

‘Opportunity 2.’
