The team to win the novelty GHALCA8 competition would play a total of five matches, GHANAsoccernet.com understands.

This includes a one-off three matches at the preliminary group stage, a semi and then the grand finale with matchday venues being balloted for.

This was the format agreed upon by the competition’s organizing committee at a meeting on Friday.

“The clubs have agreed to this format after explaining details to them,” Organizing Committee Chairman, Kwaku Eyiah told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“There would be five matchdays of which venues would be balloted for excluding a third place playoff game.”

Only the best referees presented by the Referees Committee of the Ghana FA would be implored in the competition.

This follows concerns raised by giants Asante Kotoko who are bent on not repeating their shameful act during the 2011 Presidents Cup after claims of referee bias.

“Games would be played on the 4th, 7th, 11th, 18th and 25th of September and we have asked the Referees Committee to present us with their best officials after sentiments expressed by Kotoko.

“A list of players and strips to be used by the clubs are to be submitted ahead of the start of the competition to avert any controversy.

“We have also put in mechanisms to ensure that protests are dealt with within 24 hours of filing provided they are lodged on matchdays,” Eyiah added.

Venues mooted to host the games are the home bases of the clubs involved except for Nania FC who have a choice of either the Accra or El-Wak stadium as their home.
