Osagyefo Soccer Cup Launched At Ellembele

The maiden edition of the 2011 Osagyefo Soccer Cup which is meant to commemorate the Founder’s Day Celebration has officially been launched by the Chiefs and people of Nkroful in the Ellembele District of the Western last Friday with the theme as “Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the Dream Lives On”.

The objective of the Osagyefo Cup Events is mainly to promote the ideals and principles that he stood for as well as unearth and reward deserving participants in the activities that are slated to be marked. This year’s edition which is organized and promoted by Nzema Events Management is also done in partnership with the office of the Ellembele MP, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah. The three day activities is expected to start from Monday 19 – Wednesday 21 September 2011 will seek to bring together activities which are centred on three key components made up of education, tourism and sports. The inter- Senior High schools soccer event shall be competed among eight schools from the three Districts of the Nzema zone; these are Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School (NASS) the host, Nsein Senior High School (Nseinsco), Kikam Technical Institute (Kimtech), Bonzo Kaku Senior High School (Bokass), Annor Adjei Senior High School (ANASS), Usman Bin Affan Senior High School (UBASH) Kamgbunli, Half Assini Senior High School (Hasco) and Esiama Sectech. The Member of Parliament for Ellembele Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah in his address delivered on his behalf by the DCE for Ellembele Hon. Daniel .K. Eshun, expressed joy for being part of an occasion which is meant to celebrate an icon that is seen as the pillar of Ghana’s independence and Africa at large.

According to Hon. Kofi Buah, his office was much pleased when he received the proposal for partnership and never hesitated to reject such concept which will highlight on the ideals and principles of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who is a native of Nkroful. He added that his outfit will continue to support and partner with any organization that would initiate programmes that promote education, sports, tourism as well as any activities that would seek to bring the people together. The Projects Implementation Manger (PIM) of Tullow Oil, sponsors of the event, Mr. Ken McGhee underscored that his outfit is ready for the Osagyefo events and will ensure to provide the necessary assistance to make this year’s celebration a remarkable one. He added that his company is committed to supporting programmes which will seek to raise the good image of the country and the region in general. The Chairman for the occasion, Nana Kwasi Kutuah IV, Chief of Nkroful in his opening remarks welcomed the event and called for more of such events. He added that his town is ready to celebrate one of its own by ensuring that all the needed facilities are provided.

The Programmes Coordinator of Nzema Events Management, promoters of the Osagyefo Cup Events, Mr. Sylvester Enumi Cudjoe said the three days activities will foster good relationship among the participating schools. He thanked partners as well as sponsors of this year’s event and called on all to support by contributing to ensure that the occasion becomes a success, adding that the various activities earmarked to commemorate the Founder’s Day celebration of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah shall become an annual event.

The Chairman of the Nzema Senior High Schools Sports Federation, Mr. Kojo Edjah added that his members are committed to ensure that this year’s editions becomes a success and thanked the organizers and sponsors for their efforts. Other activities that would also be marked include both inter-districts Junior High Schools (JHS) quiz competition as well as an inter-senior high schools competition for the eight participating schools. All questions shall solely be on the birth and life history of Kwame Nkrumah, the celebrity. On tourism, there shall be an Open Day exhibition for all school kids and tourists at Nkrumah’s mausoleum.
