…as Blue Whales lose 5-7 to Gulf Powers
in Division One League Big Game

The Ghana Beach Soccer League Arena at the La Pleasure Beach
was the hot spot for Chorkor Blue Whales when they were shocked in a 12 goals
action packed duel with Gulf Powers.
Gulf Powers who are one of the serious Beach Soccer Clubs
and take their training very passionate were thankful to God and coach Jonny
who mapped a good strategy to outwit the over confident Blue Whales who scored
the first goal through Robert Saba, but it was equalized before the Powers
went ahead and Whales levelled.
By the end of the second half the boys from Chorkor were
surprisingly 2- 6, down due to poor goalkeeping from Richmond Armah, standing
in for the agile tall tried and tested Isaac Quartey.
The captain of Powers and new goals leader, Eric Lamptey
banged in five goals before National team prospect King Addo rallied his
colleagues to find their bearing and also score some of the beautiful goals,
but time was not on their side so their best was a 5-7 result which the
President of the GBSA Yaw Ampofo Ankrah described as one of the best matches
ever played at the arena and it was sad that many television cameras were not there
to cover and play back for Ghanaians who love football especially beach soccer.
These who registered the goals for Whales were Robert Saba
with two goals, King Addo, Francis Patamia and Wilmot Mingle. Addo and Saba now
have four goals with goal shy-Mingle at three goals.
In other matches played on the eighth week, Teshie United
played a determined game to halt league leaders African Angels who have amassed
21 points through walk overs. Theo Armah of Ogbonu FM was the tactician for
Teshie to grab a 2-1 winner to close the gap on 18 points.
Black Sea Lions had a walk over Global and Nungua also
collected three free points from non existent James Town Octopus. Nima were
sure to collect free points but they had to sweat to a 2-2 drawn game with
Golden Eagles.
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah said the Division One League was
interesting and urged fans to troop to the arena to watch the thrillers and new
stars emerging from beach soccer.
He hinted that the National team would soon be formed
because Ghana has been invited by some countries such as Togo who want to play
a friendly game.
Some of the guests who watched last Saturday’s matches were
Fuseini Bawa General Secretary of the GBSA and Douda Luthorodt deputy coach of
the Black Meteors and local Black Stars.
The first round comes to an end next Saturday with some
exciting fixtures.
Teshie face Golden Eagles, Black Sea Lions clash with
African Angels, Nima meet Nungua, James Town play Gulf Powers and Blue Whales
lock horns with Global Supporters.
