Ghana and West Africa Super lightweight champion Benjamin Ashley says it's time to prove that he is the best in this country and is demanding an immediate match-up against other pretenders to the tag. First on that list, he wants to square off against Chorkor compatriot Ebenezer Lamptey alias Mafia of Believer's Gym.
"I've beaten all the good boxers in my division and it's left with only Ebenezer Lamptey and I want to silence him too. I am ready for the world because my time has come to be a world champion.
"It's the dream of every boxer to be a world champion but it's all step by step so I have to cement my status as the best in Ghana first. Give me Mafia now so I can destroy him," Ashley has told www.sportsinghana.com.
Ashley, 17-3, 10 KOs, apparently was offered an opportunity by UK based promotional outfit Match Room Sports Ltd. to fight for the Commonwealth Super Lightweight belt against champion Lee McAlister.
There are also plans to get Ashley to fight for WBC International silver title when Box Office Sports stage a promotion on March 31st in Accra. But his manager turned down the fight and instead is turning on a fight against Lamptey AKA Mafia as early as possible.
"I want to test my boxer well in Ghana before I take him outside the country. I know Mafia will be a tough fight him and that's what he just needs now to keep in shape. Let him pass that test and we can then march forward," Wallace Tackie-Komme, manager of the boxer has explained.
