The immediate past President of the Ghana Football Association Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called on leading Black Stars player Asamoah Gyan to rescind his decision of calling off his duty at the national level indefinitely.
“Many great players went through similar experiences but were able to withstand it. I think he should take a good look at his decision again,” he said.
The GFA according to Nyaho-Tamakloe must talk him out of the decision to quit since “he is a good material we will need for future commitments. It is unfortunate but as someone who rallied behind him in 2008 when I had just left the FA to become an ambassador, I understand.
“Some of these players go through a lot of physical trauma in instances like this. He needs our support in times like this,” he added.
“Gyan should also know that once you attain a certain level of growth in your career, the criticisms will definitely flow in from all quarters, but when they do come, it is up to you to take it in good faith, and concentrate on the bigger opportunities ahead.
“Merely calling off your duty at the national level because of insults doesn’t sound well. The moment you do that, you give room for people to start comparing you and others who went through similar circumstances but are still with their national teams”.
In a related development, Nyaho-Tamakloe has questioned why the Black Stars weren’t hosted by the president when they arrived from the Nations Cup, adding that it wasn’t the best.
The Black Stars cruised quietly into town the day after they lost their third place match to Mali, without pomp and pageantry.
“We could have done more for them. Football isn’t always about winning,” he said.
