MTN FA Cup contenders, Danbort FC, were brutalised by irate supporters of Okwahu United last Wednesday in their Zone 3B Division one second round Match Day 4 fixture at the Nkawkaw Park.

The match saw the home side winning by just a goal through a dubious penalty awarded by the centre referee for the fear of his life and numerous treats he received from the irate supporters of Okwahu throughout the entire duration of the match.

Two of Danbort players, Mohammed Sackey and leading scorer Daniel Awuni, were hit by a stone from the stands that bruised their head and are now hospitalised as a result. The entire Danbort technical bench has to face the crowd afterwards to prevent themselves from sustaining further injuries from the missiles from the crowd.

The team bus also had to drive into the inner perimeter immediately after the final whistle to whisk away the entire team under the escort of the Police out of the stadium and Nkawkaw township. Danbort officials were also asked to put off their mobile phones whilst the policemen were also prevented from carrying out their duty.

Journalists were also prevented from covering the match including the GFA cameraman who was at the match venue to take footage of the match. It was just a total horror and a disgrace to Ghana Football on that Black Wednesday in the history of Ghana Football.

I think the Ghana Division One League Board must take a critical look at what happened at Nkawkaw last Wednesday and bring the perpetrators to book to serve as deterrent to other teams in the country. We must all condemn hooliganism in Ghana football especially even more when the said match was played on May 9 which should have even reminded them of the May 9 Accra Sports stadium disaster where about one hundred and twenty seven (127) human souls perished as a result of the same act of crowd riot.

The officials of Danbort FC have condemned the attack on them and have immediately called on the Division One League Board and the GFA to look into the matter and apply the sanctions where necessary to curb this menace of hooliganism in Ghana Football.

Danbort themselves are currently lying first (1st) on the Division One Zone 3B league table with twenty (20) points with just three (3) matches to go. Danbort, also one of the strong contenders for the on-going MTN FA Cup campaign will face New Edubiase in the next round of quarter final at the Tema Sports Stadium.
