Former Arsenal and Ajax Amsterdam playmaker Quincy Owusu Abeyie has made his intentions clear about a possible return to the Black Stars of Ghana.
The player, who developed from the famous Ajax Youth system, has not featured for the Black Stars since his bench warming role at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
But the Panathinaikos midfielder has promise to put up his best to attract the attention of Black Stars coach Akwasi Appiah to include him in Ghana’s team for the 2012 AFCON in South Africa.
The 26-year-old Dutch-born Ghanaian, who switched nationality to represent the country in the 2008 African Cup Of Nations held in Ghana, has in recent years lost favour and trust of the technical handlers of the senior national team but still holds the view he has more to offer to the nation.
According to the player, “I still play regularly in Greece for Panathinaikos, who are also featuring in the UEFA Champions League as well. I’m always prepared to play for the Black Stars whenever I am called upon to do so. But that depends on the technical handlers of the team whether they need me in the team or not”.
He added that “I’ m hoping to be part of Ghana’s final squad to the AFCON in South Africa, but I will continue to fight back into the team even if I am not selected.’’
The player who made an instant mark in his early days with the Black Stars has failed in recent times to live up to expectation and much would be expected of him if he is to be called back into the national team by coach Akwasi Appiah.
Since his switched to the Black Stars of Ghana, the winger who has featured in major tournaments including the 2008 African Cup Of Nations in Ghana and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa has recorded 18 caps and scored two goals in the process for Ghana.
