Black Stars defender, Jerry Akaminko might have caused a late penalty to facilitate a draw for the Democratic Republic of Congo in a Group B opener on Sunday, but the player prefers to call the result a team's effort.

Akaminko whose contact with Dieudonne Mbokani caused a penalty for the Leopards to pull parity told GNA Sports after the game in Port Elizabeth that, "much as I feel bad about that penalty, I did not cause it. It was a team effort through out."

The debutant said: "I cannot criticize the referee for that decision. I feel bad but we have to learn to move on from here. I do not think our path for a place all the way to the finals has been made difficult by this result.

"At this moment, we are looking forward to winning our next two games for a place in the last eight."

The defender declined to rate his performance, his first at the biannual event that lace Africa's best 16 teams on one stage.

Ghana is chasing a fifth Nations Cup glory at the competition.
