Midfielder Michael Essien insists he expects no preferential treatment when being selected by Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah for the 2014 World Cup.

The AC Milan star is deemed one of the sure bets to make the Black Stars squad for the summer World Cup in Brazil.

Essien has only started enjoying regular first team action at club level following his January move to the San Siro.

The 31-year-old had become a bit-part playing during his latter days at Chelsea – having recovered from a series of serious injuries.

He however remains one of the coveted Ghanaian players abroad but says he wants no special treatment amongst the variety of players coach Appiah must choose from for the World Cup.

“I expect to be treated like any other player by the coach,” he told Supersport.

“I don’t expect any preferential treatment. The coach will ultimately decide who is selected to go to the World Cup and my job is to train hard, play well and make myself available for selection.”

Essien could be excused from Ghana’s international friendly against Montenegro on March 5 – a greatest indication his position in the World Cup squad is secured.
