Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi believes coach Kwesi Appiah has done more than enough to earn a contract extension but stressed the decision is not ‘solely’ his to make.

The former Black Stars captain presided over Ghana’s fabulous qualifying campaign to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Appiah becomes the first indigenous coach to qualify Ghana to the World Cup finals with Serbians leading the charge in Ghana’s previous two appearances.

Sceptics have however questioned the tactical acumen and man-management skills of the former defender – pointing out to his failures at the 2013 Nations Cup as ample proof.

But GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi says Appiah has impressed to warrant an extension as he initial two-year deal to be coach of the Black Stars near its expiration.

“Kwesi Appiah has done very well to be the first indigenous coach to qualify the team to the World Cup.

“He just didn’t qualify us but he did it in grand style – smashing teams six, four and so on.

“But it is a decision that will be taken at the Executive Committee level but personally I have been very impressed by his work.”

Appiah has a 50 percent winning rate in his two-year reign as coach of the Black Stars.

The former Ghana international has won 10 times, lost seven and drawn three in the 20 matches he has presided over as coach of the Black Stars.
