MTN to add Digital Touch to SWAG Awards

Communication giants MTN has promised to add a new dimension to the prestigious Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards which omes of on May 17 at the State House in Accra.

Addressing the media last Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium during the launch of the event, MTN Corporate Services Executive , Mrs. Cynthia Lumor disclosed that together with MTN’s digital team, they will be using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages to share exciting memories of the event.


She encouraged people to live feeds and tweets to friends and family members who may not be able to be present physically at the State House on the Awards Night.


“We are confident that this engagement approach will strengthen SWAG ana MTN’s digital platform presence both in Ghana and abroad. Active participants on these social networks will receive exciting giveaways from MTN” she assured.


According to Madam Lumor, MTN will announce their full package for SWAG very soon and commended sports journalists and media organisations across the country for supporting their activities and programmes.


She gave special mention to all the television stations, popular newspapers and interne sites such as Ghanaweb and the radio stations.

She expressed MTM’s passion and commitment to social activities, especially sports which does not only make one fit and healthy but creates many opportunities and unites the people.


She congratulated the various sports associations who organize and send sportsmen and women out to make the nation visible on the international scene and added that recognizing and rewarding distinction was part of the MTN culture, so the proud sponsor will put up a surprise package to make the ceremony which is to celebrate Ghana Football very memorable.


Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan and Coach Dr. Kwesi Appiah are in the forefront for the Sports Personality Award with international weightlifter Juliana Arkoh as the darkhouse.


Three top professional stars who will be presenting the nation at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil are I contention for the Footballer of the Year Award which football fans will tweet or text for the winner.


The players are Sulley Muntari, Kwadwo Asamoah and Asamoah Gyan.

For the 2013 SWAG Awards, over 20 sportsmen and women as well as corporate bodies who have sponsored sporting programmes will be honoured.


They include CAL Bank who have been supporting Ghana Beach Soccer for the past three seasons.


The 39th MTN SWAG Awards was launched by Madam Alice Attipoe Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).


Two patrons of SWAG, Ambassador Ray Quarcoo and veteran sports journalist Nana Oheneba Charles graced the launch which attracted many sports mediamen and sports performers and administrators.
