As long as Mankind has lived on Mother Earth, human beings, regardless of race, gender, etc, have lived to believe in something. From the East to the West, each belief system is not for nothing (there's always been a reason). But to put it gently, this article and the reason given for Essien opting for 5 as being belief-related is totally nonsense. And I would never blame the player, but those making these allegations. And dear reader, please ask KWEKU BONSAM to stop disgracing Ghana.

Why are people being superstitious towards the Black Stars and their World Cup bid this time?
If a player would pick up an injury in a tournament, it would surely happen irrespective of the number on the jersey he is wearing. We don't have to assume that Essien chose the number five(5) jersey because of fear of getting injury.

The entire Black Stars mentality is built on superstitions, why is no one asking the reasons Black Stars is the only country in the world that choose to play in a jersey that does not represent the national colours,? all countries in the world play their football with jerseys made out of their their countries flag colours except Ghana. Let nobody decieve anyone, Ghanaians are philosophically superstitious people, otherwise someone like Kweku Bonsam will not wish Ronaldo got wounded in order that Ghana benefits from his absense on the field. Football is a game to be enjoyed by all, God is not a supporter of any team therefore its your abilities that win games and not superstitions the kind Ghanaians are engaged in.

Stop your stupidity now, comparing yourself to others in the US tells you have no respect for youself, you cannot think for yourself except others inspire you to think and behave like them. You are a fool, we are talking about a whole nation being hooked on superstitious belief as exhibited by Michael Essien and his change of number, which invariably is exactky the way managements of Black Stars also superstitiously think by shying away from the national colours of red, gold and green. Which decisions of any American state institutions will you suggest is taken or based on superstitious belief as the Black Stars managements have done.?

You may be right though in your analysis of German team ever wearing a white colour, but what you also failed to notice on their jersey is the bold combinations of German flag colours embedded broadly across the chest which gives them up from a distance as German football ambassadors. Apart from that the German white is also worn over black shots and red hoses which are all national colours, while Ghana's is all-white which has no bearing at all to any national conscience.
Orange colour of Holland is a national identification colour outside the flag colours adopted as a symbol of identity of the Dutch ingenuity on marine engineering expertise and achievements, therefore falls within their right to use the colour as an identity on the world football stage. What does white represent in Ghana if not for pure reasons of superstitions as exemplified by Michael Essien. Where in the Ghanaian jersey do you see any red, gold and green.?
