Adam Kwarasey was born in Oslo, Norway to a father from Ghana and a mother from Norway. He holds both a Ghanaian passport and a Norwegian passport.
Kwarasey played youth football with Trosterud and Vålerenga. After moving to Strømsgodset, he made his debut on 6 May 2007 Kwarasey was the captain of the club when Strømsgodset in 2013 won Tippeligaen for the first time since 1970. He also won the Kniksen Award as the best goalkeeper in the 2013 season.
International career
In November 2007, Kwarasey declared that he would play international football for Ghana. However, he played a friendly match for Norway under-21 in 2008.
In October 2010, Kwarasey received his Ghanaian passport and became eligible to play for Ghana on 30 July 2011, Kwarasey was called up to the Ghana national team for a match against Nigeria. That match was postponed due to security reasons although Kwarasey confirmed his intention to become Ghana's first-choice goalkeeper.
His first cap came after a long wait on 2 September 2011 when he took the pitch for a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Swaziland before playing in a friendly match against Brazil at Craven Cottage in London three days later.
Kwarasey was named to Ghana's 23-man squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. In January 2012, Kwarasey was described as a "potential legend" for Ghana.
Kwarasey has, at times, been criticised for hesitating to come off his line. He lined up once for Norway as a youth international, but he turned down further opportunities to play for the Scandinavian country and opted instead to hold out hope for a chance with his beloved Black Stars.
He has so far made 15 appearances for Ghana and will be making his world cup debut.
Kwarasey’s favorite Jersey number is number 12 and will be in that same Jersey number for the Black Stars at the World Cup.
