TP Mazembe defender Yaw Frimpong says the pain of elimination from the semifinal of the CAF Champions League would spur himself and his teammates to go one better this coming season.

He told footy-ghana.com that for days after the semifinal defeat to Algeria’s Entente Setif, neither head coach, Patrice Carteron nor the players could speak publicly because the expectation was to reach the final.

“We had worked very hard and we knew that we would qualify for the final, but it wasn’t to be. My head coach could not talk to us or publicly for several days and we as players were also very quiet. We will use the pain to spur ourselves towards winning the competition next year.”

Frimpong spoke about the important of proper preparation as TP Mazembe prepares a fresh onslaught on the Super Ligue, the national cup and the CAF Champions League.

“We need to retrace our steps and work even harder, because good preparations can lift us towards the ultimate dream of winning the CAF Champions League next year.”

The Ghana defender also told footy-ghana.com that having other Ghanaians in the team makes him feel at home, describing Daniel Nii Adjei, Gladson Awako, Solomon Asante and Richard Kissi Boateng as brothers.

“They are like brothers and I love playing with them. Because of them, I feel at home in this club.”

TP Mazembe has so far claimed 3 points out of 6 in the opening two Super Ligue fixtures; thrashing Bantous 7-0 and losing 0-1 to Sanga Balende.
