Asamoah Gyan is confident the Black Stars will thrive in his absence as they attempt to book a place at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghana captain and top scorer has been the main source of goals on the journey to next year’s troubled tournament with three out of the eight goals Ghana has scored so far.

The Black Stars need one win from their last two qualifiers against Uganda and Togo to qualify for the tournament; but will have to do that without their talisman, Gyan.

He is unavailable through injury alongside the influential Kwadwo Asamoah and his strike partner of recent games Jordan Ayew who is suspended for the first of two games against Uganda.

He said: “I have been out for a month and after speaking to the coach we came to an agreement that having not trained for about three weeks it will be difficult to give my all. You need to be fit and give everything when you show up that is why I have been excused from these games. I am not at that level where I can give everything.

“But as I always do I support the team with everything and I am here to do that. We have got young players and a brilliant team and this is the time they need encouragement.

Gyan reckons the game in Kampala would be tough having played in the difficult 1-1 draw against the same side in Kumasi earlier in the qualifiers.

“Although we are leading the group, this will still be a tough game. Uganda drew here. They will give everything away and that is something we should expect,” Gyan said.

“We have got a lot of players who were there in the team during the World Cup and have been around for long. We have got quality players so we have to support them and make sure they will deliver. Playing away from home will be difficult and I think it will take immense collective effort to win. I am confident we will come out with a positive result,” he added.

Gyan believes he will be back playing again at the end of the international break. “I have started training with that ball and think after the international break I can play,” he claimed.
