Sulley Muntari could face sanctions for snubbing the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Ghana’s disastrous showing at the 2014 World Cup.
The AC Milan star after an initial expression to offer himself to the commission was later unwilling to tender in evidence when he was required to do so.
Muntari, according to reports, claimed he did not have the internet facility – Skype – through which the commission intended to derive its evidence.
The commission had considered the former Inter Milan as a key witness in its inquiry since he appeared in several references made by previous witnesses.
The 30-year-old was thrown out of the Black Stars camp for assaulting a high ranking Ghana FA official at the height of the players’ agitation over delayed payment of their appearance fee during the World Cup staged in Brazil.
The commission thus wanted to seek Muntari’s version so as to reach a balanced verdict in its report – one the AC Milan star declined despite his initial interest.
The 30-year-old could however face an unspecified action which is suspected to be a sanction when the commission finalizes its work and presents its report by December 14.
“We had notified his [Muntari] club, AC Milan of our intention to have him testify,” the commission spokesman Thomas Boakye Agyemang told Happy FM.
“We were dealing with his lawyer and the player himself until the time came for him to testify.
“But then when the time came, it appeared he [Muntari] wasn’t prepared to give his side of the story so the commission decided to leave him out for us to continue to with our work.
“There will be consequences and it will be entailed in the final report of the commission.
“Once the commission completes its work, everything will be clear. “The commission’s report will determine everything [whether Muntari was fair to the commission and required punishment].
“What the commission makes of his conduct will be captured in the report.”
Muntari has since been handed an indefinite suspension from the Black Stars and is currently unavailable for international selection.
He is required to send a formal apology to the Ghana FA before he is considered for selection even after the appointment of new coach Avram Grant.
