Asante Kotoko coach David Duncan says his team lack the killer instincts upfront to unlock the defence of opposing teams.

The defending champions could not surmount the formidable bulwark of Great Olympics, eventually sharing the spoils at a goalless draw in Week 13 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

“I was impressed because even at the highest level, coaches complain about teams that come to defend,” Duncan said.

“In that kind of situation, you need someone with some exceptional ingenious qualities, which could help to unlock the tight defence of the opponents but unfortunately we didn’t have that quality,” he added.

Duncan further lamented that his side tend to look helpless against teams with strong defence.

The former Hearts of Oak coach joined Kotoko in mid-season after the dismissal of Didi Dramani following a poor start to the campaign.

Kotoko suffered an early Caf Champions League exit last weekend, losing at home 2-1 to Algerian side MC Eulma after a hopeful goalless draw in the first leg. The Porcupine Warriors however got some consolation days later when they thrashed second-tier side Birim DC United 5-2 in the FA Cup Round of 32 to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Kotoko have recorded only two wins at home and currently lie 6th on a 16-team log with 20 points, eight behind leaders AshantiGold SC.
