Former Ghana international Godwin Attram has called on fading Ghanaian players in Europe to come home and sign for local clubs in order to re-launch their career.
Attram, 34, is among high profile players who have returned to the country to play in the Ghana Premier League.
The former PSV Eindhoven player, veteran Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson and defender Dan Quaye have all joined Accra Great Olympics for the rest of the season.
“I want to tell them not to be discouraged by the taunts from the fans because we all went out there and some of us are back,” Attram told Goal.
“They should ignore the insults because no matter the situation there would always be criticisms.
“You only have to focus on the game and know that you are playing for the club and yourself.
“If you go to South American countries like Brazil and Argentina for example, world class players like Ronaldihno, Kaka and Ronaldo came back to their native country when they faced challenges in their football careers abroad,” he said.
Attram also called on the local media to help promote and support players who are willing to try out the domestic league.
“I think the media has a big role to play here. They shouldn’t say bad things about players who want to come home. The negativity in Ghana is too much but the media can help,” he said.
Attram began his career at Great Olympics in 1996 before moving to PSV Eindhoven two years later.
He was a member of Ghana squad at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
