Accra(Greater Accra Region) 8 Oct 1998 Mr Sylvester Azantilow, a Deputy Minister of Ministry of Youth and Sports has led representatives of Philips Project International and Interbeton B.V (both from Holland) to inspect the 774- acre land for the construction of a national Olympic stadium complex at the Nungua farms, off the Accra-Tema motorway.
The Government last May awarded the feasibility study contract of the complex to Philips out of 14 international bidders.
Philips, which is jointly undertaking the study with Interbeton, a construction firm, is expected to complete work next March.
Mr Azantiolw said the study would be in three phases-- the Loan structure, the sketch design and the business plan.
Though the deputy minister could not say who will undertake the actual construction of the stadium, Mr Jose E. Levy, a Design Manager with Interbeton said plans are afoot for his company together with Philips to construct the stadium.
He said a rough estimates of 400 million US Dollars have been submitted to the Ministry and that work would take two to four years to complete.
Mr Levy said Interbeton would be in-charge of the physical structures while Philips would install all the needed equipment.
The group, which arrived in Ghana on October 6, returns home on October 9, and would be paying regular visits to the site before submitting the final report in March next year.
The construction of a national Olympic stadium complex by the government was announced by President Jerry Rawlings in his sessional address to Parliament in February last year. GRi
