MTN releases GH¢40,000 to SWAG for Awards

Communication giants MTN-Ghana have released an amount of GH¢40,000 to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) as sponsorship for the 41st MTN-SWAG Awards which will be held later this year.

This was announced last Wednesday by the Corporate Services Executive of MTN, Madam Cynthia Lumor, at the launch of the awards which seeks to reward excellence in sports in the country at the newly-constructed head office of MTN at Ridge.

She said her outfit was happy to be associated with the association, saying MTN believes in the contribution that sports

"We are very pleased that SWAG has featured prominently in our 20 years history and continue to partner us to a future of unlimited opportunities. On the occasion of the launch of the 41st edition of this esteemed award, we congratulate SWAG for your commitment towards recognising sports personalities who excel in their disciplines," she said.

“Recognising and rewarding excellence is part of the MTN culture and we believe that this annual event by SWAGis a compelling one which is why MTN continues to support it.

On his part, the president of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah, announced that the awards would be held on Saturday, June 4 at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra, with the minister attending as a special guest, while the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, would deliver the keynote address as Special Guest of Honour.

He said honours would be conferred on 26 individuals and corporate bodies for outstanding performances in 2015.

Mr Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Minister of Youth and Sports, who launched the event, congratulated both MTN and SWAG on their contribution towards the development of sports in the country and urged the sponsors to extend the help to other sporting activities.
