Vice Chairman for Ghana Referee Association, Joe Debrah has revealed that the Ghana Football Association should be blamed for the chaos happening in the Division One League.
The referee who officiated the match between King Solomon and Great Olympics was beaten heavily by the supporters of King Solomon breaking onto the pitch and beat the referee and the match commissioner for not being fair to King Solomon during the match.
The referee was beaten with stones and blocks tearing his officiating shirts apart leaving him unconcerned at the stadium. Various referees officiating the Division One League have been in difficult situation including our women’s league referees.
Speaking Asempa FM, he said, “With what I saw it shouldn’t be happening in our football because we need to understand that it not foot war but football.”
“Before the week ends we will take decision on how to protects our referees but we shouldn’t allow our emotions to control us because we are doing holistic investigation so am asking all the referees who have been beating by supporters of a club to stay calm because we will not sit down for somebody to die before we take a decision the board will meet tomorrow to discuss what will help protect our referees.”
He also revealed the reason why the referees who have been beating by some supporters a club are not talking to the media. He said, “The reason why the referees are not talking is that we told them our referees not to talk because they have been already been beaten by some supporters of a club so allowing him to talk will be something else because it can trigger the whole issue when he follows his emotions.”
“It very true that the referees don’t feel protected officiating the division one league matches but we will do anything in our capacity to help protect the referees and promote our league.”
He continued, “Now, with this happening at the division one league, I will blame the GFA for not taking any pragmatic actions against club supporters who beat any referee because if there are pragmatic actions the various clubs will not behave like this in our football. We will make sure we address all this problems when we meet tomorrow with the board.”
