The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is not serious about curbing hooliganism in the local game, according to an official of Groupe Nduom (GN).

The founder of the GN, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom directed management of his subsidiary company, GN Bank to suspend their sponsorship of the GN Bank National Division One League (DOL) after the first round.

According to the renowned politician, his company cannot be a partner to a body that he described as having ‘wanton disrespect for human life and property’ after Elmina Sharks’ Coach, Amissah Kobina was hospitalized after he was physically assaulted by fans of Proud United in a recent league game between the two.

The trend of hooliganism has been consistent, and Richmond Keelson, Corporate Affairs Manager of Groupe Nduom said, “We are suspending the league and asking the GFA to give us concrete solutions to this problem, failing which we will abrogate the contract altogether,” he told Joy FM in Accra.

“I don’t think [the GFA are serious]. I don’t think so. This is not the first time; it’s been happening. Even the [Ghana Premier League] itself has experienced some form of hooliganism this season,” he said.

GN Bank signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with the Ghana Football Association last year.
