Head coach of Al Khartoum, James Kwesi Appiah has submitted his application for the vacant Black Stars coaching job, FootballGhana.com understands.

Appiah, 56, qualified the Black Stars for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, making him the first black African coach to take the team to the global football festival but due to a fracas between him and some senior members of the squad, he left his position by mutual consent just after the World Cup.

However, information gathered by FootballGhana.com this morning indicates that the soft-spoken coach has put in his application after careful assessment of how he could help the team achieve its targets of reaching the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Many football connoisseurs have touted him as the right man to take up the team’s rein as the debate over who should be given the job between local and expatriate coach rages on.

FootballGhana.com understands over 70 coaches have shown interest in the position left by former Chelsea manager Avram Grant.

Last week, the Ghana FA set-up a six-man committee to oversee the selection process using a two-pronged approach in finding the new man.
