The newly elected Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo-Mensah on Thursday said the media will be instrumental in pushing the various disciplines forward.

Nunoo Mensah, who doubles as the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) President unseated the incumbent Professor Francis Dodoo, after polling 33 votes against the latter’s 28 votes at the GOC’s congress held last Wednesday.

He would manage the affairs of the Committee for the next four years.

Nunoo Mensah said he would involve the media in his work and called on all sports stakeholders to help push Ghana sports forward.

He said ‘‘we need to build our sporting brands and it is the media that will give mileage to the corporate bodies who come on board. We have to build our band to ensure that the disciplines become attractive and it’s the media that can help us move our sports on.”

‘‘The media would be key in my administration because one of the major problems we face in Ghana is the lack of funding, especially from corporate bodies’’.

Nunoo-Mensah said he wants to build on what his predecessor achieved and would implement all his targets. ‘‘There are quite a number of things that I want to achieve and if we stick to them and implement them all, we will do much better in the years ahead.

‘‘We need to move forward and if we don’t do better than the previous years, then it means we didn’t move forward. People would want to see the current administration perform

better and that is what I will do’’. He said

The GWF President becomes the sixth GOC president after Dr Nkansa-Gyane, K. N Owusu, Peter Kpordugbe, B. T. Baba and Prof. Francis Dodoo.
