Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has bemoaned the poor nature of sporting facilities in the country.

Under his auspices as Minister, government was able to build the Bukom Boxing Arena with the aim of developing boxing talents.

The Boxing Arena has hosted numerous boxing matches and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodoo constituency has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to construct more of such facilities across various sports disciplines to help the development of local talent.

Speaking to Class FM on Monday, November 20, he said: “Boxing has transformed because you had a government that thought about the fact that facilities are a contributing factor to the development of talents and the promotion of sports and that was why we did everything possible to put up the Bukom Boxing Arena and that has been the catalyst for interest in boxing.

“When we do same for our various football pitches, football will go up. Whether you like it or not good facilities are a sine qua non for good performance. If you don’t have the facilities, there is no way you can have the results.” He added.
