Two of Ghana’s boxing greats, Professor Azumah Nelson, and Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey have both tipped Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe to dominate the sport, after the 23-year-old knocked out Mexican Cesar Juarez in the fifth round of their WBO Interim Super Bantamweight contest at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday night.
The victory which was delivered in efficient fashion at the Bukom Boxing Arena has led to suggestions that Ghana now has a credible boxer capable of becoming an undisputed champion in the near future.
Speaking to the press after the bout, Azumah Nelson, regarded as Ghana and
Africa’s finest all time boxer said “I have always had confidence in Dogboe and what he did today was a demonstration for everyone to see what I have always been talking about. Now he has won this bout by God’s grace and we are now looking forward for him to go to the top.”
Ike Quartey, who was one of many boxing luminaries to come and lend support to Dogboe on the night said he was impressed by what he say and is convinced that Dogboe is ready to take on the world.
“Isaac will get there (to the top), because from what I saw today I can tell you that he is good, he is very very good. Of course he needs to keep working hard because working hard is the only way to go. If he works hard there is no stopping him because he is that good, trust me. I think that he is a bit short but he is strong so if he can use his strength then his size should not be a problem.”
At a very packed Bukom Boxing Arena, a resilient Isaac Dogboe sent his first message of intention when he sent Cesar Juarez grappling on the canvas in Round 2 of the stipulated 12.
Having vowed earlier to tame the monster in opponent Cesar Juarez and make history on the night, Isaac Dogboe was already on course to keeping his promise to set the chain of events leading to winning a world title for his homeland, a feat which has evaded the country in the last 20 years.
A stinging left hook to the jaw of Cesar Juarez was enough to send him to the canvas a second time and eventually end his night in the ring. A number of combinations of hooks and jabs from Isaac Dogboe ended the fight for Juarez in the 5th round
Next on the ladder is for Isaac Dogboe to challenge WBO titleholder Jessie Magdaleno, who was supposed to defend his title against Juarez but bowed out due to a wrist injury he sustained in the build-up to the fight.
Dogboe is now guaranteed a fight with Magdaleno whom he once sparred with in Las Vegas by June in a mandatory title fight following his victory against Cesar Juarez.
Isaac Dogboe has now won 18 fights, 12 of them being knockouts and losing none of them.
