Ghana boxer Isaac Dogboe finally got his hands on a World title on Saturday when he saw off Cesar Juarez to claim a crown that Belfast’s Carl Frampton predicted he would win almost four years ago.

It might only be an interim title, awaiting a fight against injured champ Jessie Magdaleno, but nonetheless it’s an impressive feat for the man who once prepared Frampton for a key fight.

That was back in 2014 as Framption got himself ready to take on Hugo Cazares in the fight that would finally tee up his first World title shot against Kiko Martinez.

And on the day of the big bout, Frampton gave a glowing reference to Dogboe, predicting his path to the top, where he now stands with his interim WBO World Super Bantamweight title.

“Isaac is just a one-fight novice professional but this guy has the potential to be a world champion, no doubt about it. He has been perfect sparring for Cazares,” said Frampton back in April 2014.

“He can punch hard, he is big and strong and he has come back and sparred me unlike a lot of other guys, who after a day or two at it can sometimes make up their excuses and not return.

“But Isaac is very tough and he has been prepared to stand and trade with me, which has been a big help in this camp. I have no doubt you will be hearing a lot more about Isaac over the coming years – that’s why we have put him on the bill.”

After his victory by total knock-out on Saturday evening, Dogboe sent a taunting message to injured champion Magdaleno.

“Jessie Magdelano I’m coming for you baby,” he said. “I know you are going to run but guess what the lion is here.”
