Ghana Badminton qualifies for 2018 Commonwealth Games

Badminton Ghana has qualified for the Mixed Team Event of the 2018 Commonwealth Games slated for April 4- 16th, 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.

The National Badminton Federation officially received its confirmation address to the Commonwealth through Badminton World Federation.

Ghana will participate in about twelve (12) sports disciplines at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Ghana Olympic Committee(GOC) announced last year.

However Badminton is the only sport among the 12 sporting disciplines that is participating in both the Individual and Mixed Team Events as it enatils an individual event, a Team Event and a Mixed Team Event.

Ghana’s National Badminton team took a giant step during the qualification period in 2017 with sterling world performances at all the strategically nine international tournaments the Association participated during the period of 2017.

Ghana Badminton will join South Africa and Mauritius as the 3 top badminton nations representing Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The Olympic Sport has gained prominence in the country in the last year under the able leadership of the current Board of Directors and it will be making a return to the Commonwealth Games for the first in 28 years.

“Our fast-track podium 2018 development agenda set by the Association in 2017 in the areas of growing world class players through local leadership, innovation and partnerships-we will build and connect local communities to badminton while meeting the needs of our 10 Regional Associations,"said, Yeboah, Evans President of Badminton Association of Ghana

We are on target of our elite development programme towards our 2020 Olympics, this overwhelming results by the team puts Ghana Badminton on the right pedestal of our African dominance over the sport and to have achieved these virtuous results in a World Championship Participation makes us proud of our national talents proliferates.

Our national team is on a reel , and I can see them winning more laurels for the Country with the needed support from the Ministry of Youth & Sports and Corporate Ghana. The brand and awareness being created with the sport, elgihtens and strengthens into our 2018 Strategic Plan” Yeboah Evans who is also an Executive Board member of Badminton Confederation of Africa added.

The Badminton team begins camping in Tema and Algeria towards their preparation towards the Commonwealth Games in April 2018.
