Ghanaweb.com can confirm that the Ghana Football Association has been given the all-clear to start the Ghana Premier League by an Accra High court.

This was after the High Court on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 threw out Accra Great Olympics’ application to place an interlocutory injunction on the start of the new Ghana Premier League season.

This will come as huge relief to the GFA who have been troubled by the ongoing legal tussle.

Background to the story

Demoted Ghana Premier League side Accra Great Olympics faced off with the Ghana Football Association at the Accra High Court where they argued that their relegation from Ghana’s top flight football is illegitimate and thus must be overturned.

Great Olympics, one of three clubs relegated from the league, sort to put an injunction on the new Ghana Premier League season, and the GFA Congress, demanding that cases before the Disciplinary Committee of the FA are resolved before a new

campaign is started.

The 2018 Ghana Premier League was scheduled to kick off on February 11 but with the injunction application, the start date was postponed, so was the GFA Congress.

Olympics are crying foul after their protests against unqualified players fielded by Bechem United and Elmina Sharks were thrown out despite having proof.

The Disciplinary Committee of the FA annulled both cases which according to the constitution merit a deduction of six points.

And Olympics will not be relegated if points are deducted. Bechem, instead, will be demoted to the second tier.

The delay in the start of the League has become a bother to the GFA who recently released a three year plan for football after a stakeholders’ meeting in Cape Coast.
