The under-13 team of Lizzy Sports Academy arrived home on Sunday after winning the second edition of the Dubai International Cup.

Scores of Ghanaians trooped to the Kotoko International Airport to give the young talented boys a rousing welcome on Sunday.

The Ghanaian side defeated favourites Real Madrid 4-2 on penalties in the final to make history as the first African country to win the tournament.

It was not an easy ride for the Ghanaian side who had to beat powerhouses like Barcelona, Juventus and Al Wahda on their way to the final.

Speaking to pressmen upon arrival, the coach of Lizzy Academy, Nana Agyemang commended his boys and described the feat as herculean.

“It was not an easy tournament. We had issues with our travelling and had to get there less than 24 hours before the start of our first game. I must commend my boys for playing well and making everyone proud”.

He called on corporate Ghana to rally behind the team as they strive to make a representation in the Black Stars saying, “These are underprivileged kids we have put together and making sure that they have a bright future. As an institution, we can’t do it all so we are calling on corporate institutions for support. This is the future of Ghana.”

He also expressed gratitude to Centa14 for staging a successful trip. Kingsley Asare, the goalie for Lizzy Academy was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
