Laryea Kingston’s Al Rayaan completes double in 2018 Private School Football Gala

Former Black Stars midfielder, Laryea Kingston led the under 12 and under 16 sides of Al-Rayaan International School to victory in the 2018 edition of the Private Schools Football Gala held at the Lizzy’s Sports Complex on Saturday.

Al Rayaan’s under-12 team pulled off a stunning comeback to draw 3-3 with Christ the King within regulation time and then went on to defeat them 3-2 on penalties.

In the under 16 category, Al Rayaan’s goalie saved two penalties as his side labored to secure a 5-4 victory over British International School who were led by the son of former Black Stars skipper, Stephen Appiah.

Laryea Kingston in a post-match interview with the press praised his charges for winning the tournament. He counseled the young players to remain committed and industrious in their quest to become football stars.

“The boys have been fantastic from day one that I joined them. They have been respectful, hardworking and have been responding to training quite well on a daily basis. The kids love the game and they have done very well. The boys have impressed today and this is the first tournament that we have won so I’m really happy for the school and for these children. I present these trophies to the boys who have done exceedingly well. I see a great future for these kids if they keep working hard and remain committed to this course”, an excited Laryea said.

Al Rayaan were rewarded with giant trophies and products from the sponsors for emerging champions. The second placed teams were also rewarded.

The Private Schools Football Gala is an annual event that seeks to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among the various private schools in Accra and Tema.

The tournament which is in the seventh season is competed by 12 teams annually and sponsored by Vita Milk, Decathlon Ghana, BIC Pen, EBN and Latex Foam.
