The Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, has reiterated the need for all stakeholders in sports to revisit the principles of fair play as enshrined and stipulated in the statues of international sporting bodies.
Football remains one of the biggest sport in Ghana, considering the various honours the sport has brought with Ghana considered as one of the heavyweights on the African continent and the World at large.
But the game in recent times has been engulfed with many shortcomings, that has hindered the progress of the football especially with allegations of bribery and corruption across all divisions in the local game with some football enthusiasts calling for massive probe to clean the menace in the sport.
But the life Patron of Aduana Stars football club, said corruption in sports at large is a vivid testimony with regards to recent happenings but believes the only way to curb this worrying phenomenon in our game is to inculcate the principles of fair play.
Speaking at the 43rd edition of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards, Agyemang Badu II stated, ''as we celebrate our compatriots tonight, we need to remind ourselves of the numerous challenges hindering development in various sporting disciplines, ranging from the lack of funding, lack of nationalism, lack of infrastructure and corruption.
''Permit me to highlight corruption as many of us have argued extraneously that there is nothing like corruption in sports. If you belong to that school of thought, the recent allegations of perceived corruption at the Ghana Olympic Committee in our participation at the recent Commonwealth Games in Australia would make us change our perception.
''As we await the premier production of corruption in social life which involves some football persons by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, we all sit on tenterhooks waiting for the said production to be aired. To verify if either of us is involved.
“I wish to entreat everyone that we revisit the tenets of fair play as enshrined in FIFA regulations, to be our watch word to enable us free ourselves of any negative branding in our sports,''
