J.E Sarpong, the Veteran Ghanaian coach has said, the mentality and style of play by the African representatives in this year’s FIFA World Cup has made it impossible for them to progress into the next stage of the competition or even win the ultimate.

According to him, the adoption of European and alien style of play is an affront to the progress of the African teams.

“Africa has its own unique style of play, which distinguishes us as a people and over the years, although we’ve not been able to win the World Cup since its inception, we have at least made significant progress as compared to what we are doing now,” he said.

He expressed worry, at the performance of the African countries in this year’s competition, describing it as very “unfortunate”.

“If we really want to make the continent proud through our style of play, I think we must look at developing the grass root and do away with our over dependence on foreign base players, who have already being moulded and turn into roles that makes it difficult for them to give out their best”. He continued.

The celebrated coach, however, has called on the handlers of football, especially in Ghana to pay a close attention to the Premier League and develop the talents therein.

Although this World Cup could be the worst World Cup for Africa, if Senegal, the only Africa hope, fails to make it to the round of 16 by beating Columbia in today’s clash.

Already, four of the Africa representatives have bowed out of the competition in a rather disgraceful way.

Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Nigeria have all been eliminated in the group stage of the competition, leaving Senegal, who also faces possible elimination.
