Cowbell announces opening for 2018 Cowbell ycling challenge

Leading powdered milk brand, Cowbell, has announced the opening of registration for the 2018 edition of the Cowbell Cycling Challenge. The tournament, which is the biggest annual cycling event organized by brand is expected to embrace 100 professional cyclists who will battle it out for the ultimate prize.

At a meeting to brief various stakeholders on the details for this year’s tournament, brand manager for Cowbell, Joseph Ashong acknowledged the need to organize the tournament with the aim of promoting and developing cycling talent in the country.

With a total prize package valued at GHC25,000, this year’s tournament is expected to attract much more enthusiasm with excellent display of cycling skills among riders. All top 30 cyclists in the competition will receive Cowbell products and cash prizes as awards for their performance.

Mr. Ashong, in a media interview reiterated the commitment of Cowbell in supporting lesser known sports in the country. “As a brand that has grown on the back bone of our local communities, we will continue to make inputs that will make our communities better and these include developing other sporting activities that can grow to the level of football. We want to grow cycling to a level where some of our Ghanaian cyclist can feature in global tournament like Tour De Paris.”

On his parts, Greater Accra Regional sport development Officer, Mr. Iddrissu who led the delegation of cyclists and their coaches, commended Cowbell for its continuous contribution to sports development in the country.

He further charged the cyclists to show high levels of discipline in the tournament.

The race will see high-speed cyclist clearing a total distance of 100km across major towns which include Teshie, Tema, Dansoman, spintex, Labadi, Nungua, Sakumono, 37 and other areas to make up the distance.

The one-day heated tournament, which is scheduled for the 21st of July 2018 will have the starting point in Chorkor. In the spirit of beefing up the excitement around this year’s tournament, the race will be preceded by a publicity ride by all cyclists in some selected areas in Accra.

Some of the cyclists and coaches who were part of the media briefing section shared the delight about the upcoming tournament and assured the media of an exciting race.

This year’s tournament is in collaboration with the Greater Accra Cycling Association.
