Former Ghana captain Charles 'CK' Akonnor is the latest to lament the Black Stars' performance in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying defeat to Kenya.

Kwesi Appiah's team has come under criticism for their lackadaisical play and wastefulness in front of goal, which resulted in a 1-0 away loss in Nairobi.

Assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko, apparently disturbed by the poor showing, warned in the aftermath of the game that any more such performances in the future could see the end of guilty players in the national team.

"The fact that they [players] performed in that manner was disappointing and shocking, especially to the technical team," Akonnor told Joy FM.

"Once you start to do something and see a lot of progress, you don't expect to have backslide.

"I think looking at how they played in previous games, this performance was very poor.

"I can understand why Tanko was furious and disappointed and, thus, spoke the way he did.

"The message is clear and I'm sure the players themselves know that this wasn't the best.

"I'm sure in their next game, they will go very high."

Ghana came into the game high in confidence after earning positive results against then World Cup-bound sides Japan and Iceland in May/June in friendly matches.

The Stars handed the Samurai Blue a 2-0 defeat in Yokohama before coming back from two-goals down to hold Strakarnir Okkar to a 2-2 draw in Reykjavik.

They next play Sierra Leone in a double-header next month in the Afcon qualifiers.
