ITF 7 World Junior Circuit ends in Accra as McDan promises more support for tennis

Fans of tennis were on Saturday treated with spectacular actions as the 2019 ITF 7 World Junior Circuit championship was climaxed with excellent displays at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The males final took an interesting twist as France’s Mathis Bondaz shocked the crowd to beat favourite Damien Laporte to the trophy

The 17-year-old defeated Seychelles’ Laporte in two straight sets (6-4, 6-3) to win the ultimate.

Speaking after the victory, Bondanz congratulated his opponents for giving him a tough run.

"He's had a great tournament and I wish we have many more tough matches in the coming month,” said Bondaz of Damien Laporte.

China’s Han Shi beat Egyptian tennis talent Hagar Ramadan to win the cup whiles Astride Cirotte and Martha Makantasi from France and Greece respectively won the women doubles.

In the boys doubles, Indian’s Lumba Eshaan and Egyptian Youssef Nabi came first after beating Marcel Politowicz and Boris Stastny 6-2, 6-4 in the finals.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Mcdan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley indicated that the successful hosting of the tournament is a mark of the progress tennis has made over the years.

He noted that Ghana tennis has gone notch higher since he decided to commit his resources and time to the development of the sport.



"Today, l am glad to let you know that we are on course. A week has just gone by with a keenly contested junior tennis; we have another two weeks for an expected exciting tennis encounters here.

"We need more competitions to keep our players on their toes and for this particular tourney, it helps the players by way of building their points.

"Tennis is business, it is big and we will continue to support it till it places Ghana up there. I thank Twellium Industries Limited for believing in our dream and the other corporate institutions like Interplast, Palace Decor, Fox, Hollard Insurance, Ann Natural Mineral water, for coming on board.

The one week tourney received sponsorship from Mcdan Group of companies, with support from Vitamilk and Rosswoodghana Co. Ltd, Hollard, Coconut Grove Hotels.

The three-week tennis fiesta continues this week to Saturday.
