Martha Bissah
Mrs. Joyce Mahama, the newly elected president of Women Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG), has appealed to the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), to lift the indefinite ban imposed on Martha Bissah, by the GAA.
She said, Bissah was the only Youth Olympic Games Gold medalist, the nation could be proud of, but the indefinite ban, has denied the nation of her services.
According to Mrs. Mahama, female athletes like Bissah should be motivated to go higher, and not be discouraged by what is happening now.
Mrs. Mahama said this during the official announcement of the 25th anniversary celebration of WOSPAG.
She said the achievement of Bissah, was part of the success story of Ghanaian women in sports, hence must not be allowed to be covered by the ban.
She made an appeal to the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Minister of Youth and Sports to intervene to lift the ban on the star athlete.
Mrs. Mahama, who is also the Vice President of Ghana Mixed Martial Arts Association (Amateur) noted that, it was not easy getting females to do sports, therefore the quality of Bissah should not be discarded having attained such a feat in her career.
She announced that WOSPAG would celebrate their 25 years of existence in style, adding that many activities have been lined up ahead of the event.
She said the anniversary would be launched in May, and would be characterized by workshops, seminars and games.
Bissah was banned indefinitely by the GAA after her heroic feat at the Youth Olympic Games in 2014.
