A cynical attempt by Asante Kotoko to avoid paying CK Akonnor a compensation for terminating his appointment has been exposed as the club deliberately releases his appointment letter for his new role as Technical Director of the club.
The Porcupine Warriors, after breaching the contract with the gaffer who is yet to spend even a year out of his three-year contract, offers him a new role as technical director which Akonnor rejected without even blinking when he was told of the new decision.
Despite rejecting the offer of the supposed new role as the head of the technical team, the Porcupine Warriors went ahead to issues an appointment letter for the gaffer for the position he’s not interested in.

The Porcupine Warriors, after breaching the contract with the gaffer who is yet to spend even a year out of his three-year contract, offers him a new role as technical director which Akonnor rejected without even blinking when he was told of the new decision.
Despite rejecting the offer of the supposed new role as the head of the technical team, the Porcupine Warriors went ahead to issues an appointment letter for the gaffer for the position he’s not interested in.
According to Akonnor, he made it clear to the management that he was appointed as the head coach of the club and not Technical Director and will only accept the new role if the existing contract is terminated for a new one start.
“I rejected it (Technical Director) because that was not why I was appointed.
” I was appointed as head coach. So if they want me to work as Technical Director, then it’s only proper they terminate my current contract, pay the compensation they have to pay and then give me a new appointment as TD,” he told footballmadeinghana.com
But the management, on Friday, hurriedly put together a letter of appointment, leaked it to the media to paint the picture of properly engaging the manager just to avoid paying the compensation.
But the dramatic scenario is set to take a wonderful legal marathon as Akonnor is set to employ all legal means to retrieve his compensation package from the Porcupine Warriors.
The decision to change the official position of Akonnor from head coach to technical director of the club which has erupted the standoff between the coach and the club has been met with unexpected aggression from the club’s fans, with most of them threatening to boycott the club’s games.
Akonnor guided the Porcupine Warriors to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup just two months after his appointment and has win the NC Special Competition Tier Two to qualify for next season’s CAF Champions League.
