Former Asante Kotoko prolific striker, Eric Bekoe has disclosed that he collapsed after his debut game against their rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Bekoe who made the exclusive revelation when he appeared on Ghanaweb’s Sports Check hosted by the Sports Editor, Daniel Oduro, confirmed that he fainted in the team’s bus when they were returning to Kumasi from their trip.

He narrated that the collapse was the last episode of a series of events that had occurred to him in the build up to his first Hearts vs Kotoko clash.

He revealed that in the days leading up to the game he received a phone call from an unknown person who told him that a fair lady had been sent his way by his opponents (Hearts of Oak) to destroy his career. Despite brushing it off when it happened, Bekoe confessed the issue bugged his mind for a long time.

“So, I got the call and I don’t know if it was from a Hearts or Kotoko person but the person said, Kwabena they have sent a fair lady to destroy you so be careful. And at the time the girl was dating too was fair, it really bothered me,” he revealed.

The striker had failed to score in his debut game against Hearts of Oak which ended in a goalless draw and Bekoe had very few opportunities in that game as Dan Coleman marked him throughout the game.

The 2007/2008 Ghana Premier League top scorer disclosed he was shocked to wake up in a hospital when his last recollection was a telephone conversation with his father in the team bus.

“When the Coleman issue happened, where he marked me throughout the game, I collapsed. I was even talking to my dad so before I realized I was surrounded by so many people. I was like Nii Adjei let’s go but he said you almost died but for God’s intervention”, Bekoe said on Sports Check.

Bekoe returned home after the incident, did his homework and scored in the second leg in Kumasi against the Phobians to beak the jinx.

The former Ghana Premier League Goal King explained that his inability to score against Hearts was just a psychological block but he managed to overcome it although people tagged it as spiritual.

Bekoe added that prior to the game, he phoned Coleman to inform him about his readiness but the defender was unavailable for that game.

“When I went back, I said, I have been beaten by the call but I organize well for the second game and I went back to do extra training. So, I told Coleman if you like don’t come, I’m indeed ready for you, we hyped the game. When they came to Kumasi that was when I broke the jinx and scored and it continued to Berekum Chelsea and Hassacas,” Bekoe said.

Bekoe tipped Kotoko to beat Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in matchday 6 of the Ghana Premier League.
