Retired Ghanaian referee William Agbovi says he is not expecting the GFA to sanction Kotoko and Aduana Stars over their decision to play the first half of their week 11 fixture with ten players instead of the usual eleven.

A very dramatic and bizarre episode was recorded at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on Wednesday as both Kotoko and Aduana began the game with a man less for unknown reasons.

Though neither club has given explanations for their strange decision, social media has been awash with various commentaries alluding to superstition as the reason for rather unusual decision.

There have also been calls for the GFA to crack the whip on the two teams as their act has brought the name of the game into disrepute.

But in an interview with ghanaweb.com William Agbovi said the two clubs did not flout any of the GFA or FIFA rules.

Citing FIFA law 3 which deals with number of players allowed to start a game, William Agbovi said the two club acted within the confines of the law.

He insinuated that the FA will have no grounds to punish the clubs should he decide to look in that direction.

“FIFA law 3 talks about the number of players allowed to start a game. The law allows that you can even start a game with seven players but must include someone identified as a goalkeeper. So none of them has flouted the regulations of the FA. That’s why the referee did not say anything because you can choose to start with ten or nine players but you don’t have exceed the maximum of eleven”.

“We are talking about bringing back the love of the game so when things of this nature are done it moves from the field to another realm. In 21st century football, these thing should not be happening.
