Following the increase in the number of recorded cases of the Novel Coronavirus the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday evening announced some drastic measures being taken by the government to control the spread of the virus.
Among the measures is the ban on all social gatherings with more than twenty-five people. This directive seeks to prevent the transmission of the virus which according to experts can be spread when an affected person comes into contact another person.
But on Monday evening, barely twenty-four hours after the president’s address, some youth in Sakaman, a suburb of Accra were busily playing football at the community’s only park.
The youth numbering close to forty were at their usual venue, the Sakaman PCG Park enjoying their football.
Divided into two teams of eleven each with the others on the bench with yellow and red bibs, these boys were battling it out as if nothing was happening in the world.
A chunk of the players are educated to the Senior High School level and a few of them are on the books of some Premier, Division One and two clubs in the Dansoman vicinity.
The PCG park has for more than two decades been the playground for the youth in that area.
Between the hours of 4 and 6pm every weekday, these young men gather to enjoy their football match and despite the threat of the Coronavirus they still don’t see any reason in shelving their passion for now.
