Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo says their bid to secure financial support from government amid the Covid-19 crisis is mainly to help local based footballers survive.

The Ghana FA and GHALCA met the sports Minister Isaac Asiamah earlier this week to deliberate on how the government can commit a portion of the Covid-19 fund to support the country’s football industry.

With football activities on hold due to the pandemic, clubs are already beginning to suffer financial paralysis hence the need for more support in these difficult times.

There have been calls that government should not come to the aid of football clubs who are privately owned setups.

However, Fianoo disagrees and says the players remain their sole focus.

He said “If our members are happy we are happy, we are not doing this to raise money for club chairmen to runs, their clubs… No!

“Our focus is the players, so if there is a way that the receive it directly, no problem so that the money does not go through the clubs and they use for other purposes apart from paying the players” Fianoo concluded.
